Perspectives on Pride - Stonewall to the Supreme Court and Beyond
Fri, Aug 23, 2019 at 5:30pm
Fifty years after the momentous uprising following a police raid on Manhattan’s Stonewall Inn, the Pacific Pride Foundation and Fielding Graduate University join forces to reflect on how far LGBTQ+ rights have come – and how far they have yet to go. Hear a keynote talk by Jim Obergefell, the plaintiff in the landmark 2015 Supreme Court case, Obergefell v. Hodges, that legalized same-sex marriage. Then listen and ask questions during a discussion of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community from a panel representing multiple generations, including:
- “Accidental activist” Jim Obergefell
- Ellen Broidy, PhD, cofounder of first Gay Pride March and member of Gay Liberation Front
- Aiden Hirshfield, PhD, Fielding graduate and transgender scholar
- Anaiya Boutan, 2019 Pacific Pride Foundation Youth Advocate Leader
Starshine Roshell of the Independent and Fielding Graduate University will moderate the discussion.
